This WHS is located in the state of Puebla. The city, whose full name is Puebla de los Angeles, was founded ex nihilo in 1531, at the foot of Popocatepetl volcano. Amongst its preserved structures are the 16th – 17th-century cathedral and other fine buildings like the old archbishop’s palace, as well as houses with walls covered in tiles, called azulejos. The unique styles are reflective of a fusion of European and American styles adopted locally.
