Kulangsu Island (or, Gulangyu) is a tiny island off the city of Xiamen in Fujian province. In 1903CE, the island was established as an international settlement, transforming it into a centre of cultural fusion for Sino-foreign exchanges. Through the efforts of local Chinese, returned overseas Chinese from Southeast and East Asia, as well as foreign residents from many countries, the settlement gained distinct characteristics, especially manifested in the architecture of its 931 historical buildings. These buildings reflect a mix of different architectural styles, including the Traditional Southern Fujian Style, Western Classical Revival Style, and Veranda Colonial Style. Also witnessed here is the evolution of a new architectural movement, the Amoy Deco Style, the result of a synthesis between the Modernist Style of the early-20th century CE and Art Deco.

Fujian Tulou

The Fujian Tulou WHS is a collection of forty-six buildings found in the southwest of Fujian province. Built between the 15th and 20th centuries CE, and set amongst agricultural fields, tulou are multi-storey earthen houses that are either squarish or circular, and constructed to look inwards. Designed for defense purposes, they typically only have one entryway to the outside, housing the whole clan of up to 800 people within. Inside, the building is divided into individual rooms for family units. The tulou exemplifies a traditional building whose functionality centred on communal living and defensive organisation, with respect to feng shui (Chinese geomancy) principles.

Ha Long Bay

Located in Quang Ninh province, Ha Long Bay in the Gulf of Tonkin is comprised of some 1600 islands and islets. This spectacular seascape is the consequence of a warm and wet tropical climate and marine erosion on a limestone landscape, creating a karst landscape over the sea.

The Silla Kingdom lasted for nearly 1,000 years, between 57BCE and 935CE. Especially from the 7^th century CE onwards, many exceptional examples of Korean Buddhist art and architecture were created, including sculptures, reliefs, pagodas, as well as religious and secular buildings. Included in this site are other secular structures and sites, including palaces, tumuli (tombs), ponds, and woodlands.

Qinghai Hoh Xil

The Qinghai Hoh Xil WHS is located in the province of Qinghai. Part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau system, it is considered the largest and highest plateau in the world. The site has a unique biodiversity, with some one-third of its flora species and all of its herbivorous fauna species being endemic to the region. With its frigid climatic conditions, it has been described as the “Third Pole”, and is also witness to dynamic geomorphological processes.
