The Göbekli Tepe WHS is located in the province of Sanliurfa. This ruins consists of megalithic monuments which are round-oval and rectangular in shape. It was believed that they were erected by hunter-gather societies in the Pre-Pottery Neolithic Age, between 9,600 and 8,200BCE, in Upper Mesopotamia. They were likely to have been used for religious ritualistic purposes, probably related to funerary practices. Images of humans and animals are carved into the pillars. Recent archaeological evidence have revealed remains of buildings that are likely to be been for domestic use.
