Regensburg is a medieval town located along the Danube River in Bavaria. Its history as a trading centre and influence on the region date back to the 9th century and was one of the centres of the Holy Roman Empire that converted to Protestantism. Most of the buildings conserved here date back to the 11th - 13th century CE, including ancient Roman, Romanesque, and Gothic architecture. 984 of the buildings here are listed under the UNESCO WHS listing.
